Katie Melua

Beautiful and intriguing, Katie was born in Georgia where she grew up for part of her childhood before moving to Northern Ireland when her father got a job as a heart surgeon in Belfast. At the age of 13 Katie showed an interest in becoming a politician but her life took a different turn when she moved to South East London and finished her education at the Brit School in Croydon where she took a BTEC and A' level in Music. She had signed her recording deal and was well on the way to completing her album before she had even received her exam results.

Music, both the creation and performance is obviously a deep passion for Katie: "I started writing songs 2 years ago and have, with my parents help, a small studio set up at home. My influences are varied and include Queen, Madonna, Eminem, Coldplay, Irish folk music and Indian music. I strongly believe that music should be performed live and that great artists are original and talented in their music performance. I always get a warm feeling when I see someone holding a guitar or violin case on the street. It's like I know I'd get on with that person. I always smile and say hi!"
